Sioux Warrior is gentle enough to be around a child.

If you are interested in breeding your mare to a high quality North American Curly stallion, then you are at the right website. Sioux Warrior is not only exceptional when it comes to conformation and good looks, but he has the sweetest disposition, and is a real gentleman as well. To top that off, he passes these wonderful traits on to his offspring. Plus, he is downright unflappable. I have not found anything that will bother this calm-natured horse. I invite you to make an appointment to visit our farm and see for yourself why D.C.C. Sioux Warrior is the correct choice for your mare.

Pictures of offspring are located on the "Foals" page.

DOB July 1998
Color Grey over Grulla. He carries the dun factor
Disposition Extremely calm, very friendly "puppy dog"
Curls medium to tight (depends where they are on him)

If mare is gray:

75% chance for a grey foal if she is known heterozygous

100% chance for a grey foal if she is known homozygous.

Curl Chances When bred to smooth-coated mare: 50% chance of curls.

When bred to a curly mare: 75% (to 100%**) chance of curls

**If mare is known homozygous, then 100% chance of curls)

*I am giving Warrior the designation of Heterozygous simply because the action of the gene that causes the hair to be curly has not studied enough. As research continues and we know more about the curly gene and it's action I will know more about how to designate him. So far I am convinced that this is a simple dominant (curly haired) vs recessive (straight haired) trait that may have a modifier that causes various expression of the curls when they are present. (Tight curls vs loose waves)

Warrior's foals: Two base black grey foals out of two diferent red (sorrel/flaxen chestnut) mares, three buckskin dun foals out of a buckskin mare, and a grey over bay out of the same buckskin mare.

*Did you notice that in some pictures he has a mane and in others the middle is missing or the mane is gone? Well, it's not what you might think. He does not shed his mane or tail in the Spring. In fact, most Curly Horses do not shed their manes and/or tails in spring. A few from some bloodlines have received a gene passed down from one generation to the next that cause them to shed their manes and / or tails whe they shed their winter coat, but not our Warrior! Instead, he seems to think that the grass is greener on the other side and the only way to get to it is through the fence. Well, we all know that curly hair tends to be fragile hair. Hence, he rubs the center of his mane off within two weeks. If that happens, we roach his mane to keep it even looking.
